Excitement! At The Sushi Bar
My friend Masa has a penchant for gory movies. He says he doesn’t, but he so does.
Take yesterday, for example.
Sukiyaki Western Django which was basically a bloodthirsty affair with some kind of Quentin Tarantino-type thing going on. I mean, Japanese cowboys? Blowing up temples? Purrrleeeeaaaase!! Give me a break, ta very much.
BUT!
Although Masa has odd taste when it comes to the silverscreen, he has the best taste in restaurants. Honestly, he really does.
Take yesterday, for example.
I’ve always loved conveyorbelt sushi bars. I know you can get a bit seasick watching all the fish revolving round like that, but how can anyone not deny it’s the most fun thing ever?
This particular sushi bar has a computer screen next to your seat. Touch the ‘nigiri’ button and up pops a virtual menu of a whole manner of edible morsels topped on balls of vinegared rice. The usual of salmon or tuna? Me thinks not. Make mine a nice hamburger sushi! I swear I’m not pulling your leg. Touch the ‘makimono’ button and see the splendid array of sushi rolls. Make mine a nice fried shrimp doused in mayonnaise!
So after you’ve placed your order, you’d expect a bowing waitress to appear, right? Think again!
A seperate track above the conveyor belt suddenly starts rumbling. What’s that? Is it a bird? Is it a plane?
No…it’s the shinkansen bullet train russling up your favourite delights that you ordered from the TV screen menu at top speed!! AND the train has all these cute little people painted on it, smiling and waving as you pick up your treats.
I’m so excited, I could squeal!
