New wave riceballs

The times they are a-changin’… Besides being old enough to know better…and the vague name of Bob Dylan, I remember a time in Japan when you could call a riceball a riceball, in much the same way you can call a spade a spade.

Yes, welcome to the wonderful world of new wave o-nigiri!

For just 135 yen from 7-11 kombini’s, you can treat yourself to the best invention ever…omu-raisu o-nigiri. Yes, that’s right; the old classic omlette rice has joined forces with Mother Riceball to create a delectible delicacy which could send any sheet of dried seaweed worth its (sea)salt running for cover.  Weeee!!

Other species include the lesser-spotted ’dry curry’ and ‘Chinese hard boiled egg’ varieties. Only a matter of time before the ‘Mexican taco rice’ illegitimate half-cousin rears its delicious head. Fingers crossed, at least.
